Cahir, the founder of Doran Construction, comes from a long line of skilled carpenters and contractors. His grandfather began his craft in 1924 in Buncrana, Ireland, and this tradition has been passed down through generations.
Cahir started his career working alongside his father, then apprenticed with a master carpenter specializing in fine trim carpentry with various hardwoods like maple, oak, and more.
Cahir was a delight from the beginning to the end of our remodel. The workmanship couldn’t have been better. He was flexible and creative and worked closely with us on new ideas and challenges In the middle of the job like these arches in our living room.

Cahir and his team remodeled our kitchen and bathrooms and done a remarkable job. Cannot recommend them enough! Attention to detail and incredible craftsmanship. We’re planning on getting them back next year to replace our deck and fencing.

Cahir has done three jobs for me and he is the best carpenter I’ve ever hired. First was a deck which is work of art, nearly cabinet level quality. There are no visible fasteners (screws, nail heads, etc), the joints are tightly and precisely cut, there are details like curved ends of the top rails to prevent splitting. I watched him build the side railing and stiles that go along the flight of stairs in the work area, then drop it into place between the upright posts and it slipped in PERFECTLY. Secondly he did an emergent repair of my balcony when the painters discovered damaged sheathing. He removed the damaged metal sheathing, found solid wood beneath so rebuilt everything – working in between the painters who were doing an exterior paint job for me. The third job was when I wanted a refrigerator that was 5/8″ too wide to fit through the passage between the DR and kitchen and 2″ too tall to fit under the cabinet above the fridge space. My 1924 home has the original rip cut oak paneling in the DR which would have been difficult to replace if damaged. He carefully lifted off the panels with air bladders, found the original old growth redwood studs, enlarged the opening and replaced the paneling and you can’t even tell anything was done. He cut off the bottom 2″ of the cabinet including all the upright slots (used for storing large items vertically) and it looks great. He has a cheerful, wonderful personality, is professional, punctual, takes pride in his work, has very high standards (which he tells me he learned from his carpenter father) and is in general a real delight to work with.
